Mangaluru, Nov 21,
Over 1200 college teachers gathered today at Besant College Auditorium to celebrate the withdrawal of the recent circular of increasing weekly teaching workload from 16/20 to 22/26 . The protest rally planned to organise today at 2.00 pm from university college campus to DC 's Office and the and the dharna near the DC's Office has been called off on the assurance from the Commissioner that the circular will be taken back immediately. On receiving the confirmation that the Higher Education Minister has signed the withdrawal of the circular, it was planned to oraginse a meeting . All the teachers from different valuation centres after finishing their valuation gathered at Besant College Auditorium.


Dr Ummappa Poojary, Former President of Amuct initiated the moderated the session. Dr Norbert Lobo , President of Amuct, welcomed the gathering and spoke on the issues. He elaborated with illustrations why this order is illogical and unscientific. he called upon all the teachers present to stay united and highlighted the need for forming a coordinating committee consisting representatives from different kinds of staff and institutions. Earlier he gratefully recalled the services and leadership of Dr A.M Narahari in teacher movement and acknowledged his role in solving this issue.


Dr A.M Narahari spoke on the issues confronting higher education and called the teachers present to work together and work for the betterment of the teachers and improving quality of higher Education.He emphasised that teaching is an intellectual process and requires to be viewed from holistic angle. Mr Rajshekar, Regional Leader of KGCTA spoke on the occasion.
Members unanimosly decided to oppose any move by the department to increase the weekly teaching workload. Mr Laksminarayan Bhat , General secretary proposed vote of thanks.
