Teaching and non teaching staff members of Degree Colleges of Mangaluru region protested against the government move to revoke notional increment given to the aided staff of the degree colleges throughout Karnataka. The Federation of University and College Teachers Association of Karnataka had given the call to protest it through Dharna in their respective regional Centres of Collegiate Education Departments.
In Mangaluru the Dharna was organised under the banner of the Association of Mangalore University College Teachers (AMUCT). Around two hundred aided staff of different colleges participated in it. Dr Norbert Lobo, the president of AMUCT briefed the members on the recent development in the department of Collegiate education. He also informed that the teachers have not their received salary in time in recent past. the delay in payment of salary has caused inconvenience to the teachers and non teaching staff. Dr Ummappa Poojary, former president of AMUCT pointed out that the department of collegiate education has decided to wind up the grant in aid system and therefore such orders are surfacing frequently from the department. Dr A.M. Narahari, former president of AMUCT also spoke on the occasion.
Sri Ivan D souza, MLC, Capt. Ganesh Karnik, MLC and Sri J R Lobo, MLA of Mangalore Constituency spoke on the occasion and promised that they will try to solve the issue as early as possible by arranging a meeting with Higher Education Minister.
