In response to the call given by All India Federation of University and College Teachers’ Organisations (AIFUCTO) and Federation of University and College Teachers Associations in Karnataka (FUCTAK), the Association of Mangalore University College Teachers (AMUCT) observed August 22 as 'Black Day' and held a peaceful dharna in front of the Office of the Regional Director of Collegiate Education, University College Campus, Mangalore on Tuesday, 22 August 2017 at 4.30 pm . Dr Ummappa Poojary, President, AMUCT, welcomed the members of AMUCT and briefed them about the delay on the part of MHRD in implementation of 7th UGC pay committee report. Except University and College teachers, almost all sections of central government employees and also many state government employees are getting the benefits of 7th Pay Commission. He urged that there must be 100% funding from Central Govt to the State Govts for the revised scales. Dr Norbert Lobo, Vice President, AIFUCTO, explained the demands of teachers at all India level. He urged the Central Government to implement these demands immediately. Dr Kumara Hegde, the General Secretary of AMUCT thanked the members for participating in the Dharna in large numbers. Finally a copy of the memorandum signed by all members of AMUCT was presented to the Joint Director of Mangalore Region to be presented to Prime Minister. More than 150 members participate in Dharna. Earlier during the day the teachers in thier respective units wore the black badges and organised protests in thier respective colleges
