The Department of Collegiate Education (DCE) directed the joint directors to take strict action against faculty who are not punctual.
The department swung into action after Lokayukta Justice Y Bhaskar Rao took the officials to task after he found that most of the professors were not present during his visit to a government first grade college in Kolar recently. Collegiate Education Director B L Bhagyalakshmi directed the joint directors of the different divisions to take strict action against the faculty who are not coming to colleges in time.
“All principals should keep a tab on the work, punctuality, attendance and activities of the faculty during duty hours. If any faculty is found guilty, a report should be submitted after taking action against them,” she said.
In a circular issued on August 1 to the principals of all colleges and the joint directors of six divisions — Bangalore, Mysore, Mangalore, Shimoga, Dharwad and Gulbarga — Bhagyalakshmi asked them to ensure the presence of all faculty in colleges till the end of the day.
“The workload of various activities should not be less than 40 hours a week for a teacher who is in full-time employment as per the guidelines of UGC,” she said.
Bhagyalakshmi said that the progress of the colleges and overall development of the students, are possible only when faculty involve themselves completely in academic pursuits. But in recent days, there are complaints from students, parents and the media that the faculty are not coming to college in right time and are not spending their duty hours in colleges, she said.
“No faculty member is supposed to take a leave without the permission from the principal. Ensure that UGC guidelines are followed,” she said
