New Delhi, Jun 9, 2016 (TOI) : The University Grants Commission (UGC) today constituted a 5-member committee for pay revision of academic staff of Universities and Colleges.
The Pay Revision Committee will be chaired by UGC member Prof V S Chauhan and it will submit its report in six months.
As per its terms of references, the committee will review the implementation of the previous decision of the government/ UGC under the scheme of Revision of Pay Scales approved for university and college teachers, librarians, physical education personnel and other academic staff in Universities and Colleges.
It will also evaluate the extent to which the earlier recommendations in relation to qualifications, service conditions and pay-scales etc have been implemented.
The panel will also examine the present structure of emoluments and conditions of service of University and College teachers, librarians, physical education personnel and other academic staff in universities and colleges.
Among other things it will suggest revision in the structure, taking into account the minimum qualifications, career advancement opportunities taking into account the minimum qualifications, career advancement opportunities, and total packet of benefits available to them (such as superannuation benefits, medical, housing facilities, etc.).
It will also make recommendations on the ways and means for attracting and retaining talented persons in the teaching profession among other things, official sources said.
Apart from Chauhan, Prof P Duraisamy, National Fellow, Madras Institute of Development Studies, Prof Ram Singh of Delhi School of Economics, retired IAS officer R C Panda and Joint Secretary in HRD ministry Praveen Kumar will be members of the committee, officials said.
